A Romeo and Juliet in a ZAD: this is the first French Disney+ film with François Civil and Lyna Khoudri

Disney + today adds to its catalog A zone to defend, its first French film carried by the duo François Civil / Lyna Khoudri.

What is it about ?

Greg, a DGSI officer, is sent under a false identity to infiltrate a ZAD. There he meets Myriam, an environmental activist. 18 months later, Greg returns there for an official mission, he finds Myriam and discovers that she has a baby. Torn between his professional ambition and a budding love, Greg must make a choice that could change everything. Because time is running out, soon everything will disappear.

The first French film from Disney+

It’s a daring bet that Disney+ made with its very first French film, A Zone to Defend. Daring, because it tackles several subjects, all as strong as each other: ecology, police violence, extremist militants…

Romain Cogitore’s camera plunges us into the heart of the chaos from the first minutes, between the charge of the police and the response of the zadists. It is therefore prohibited for people under 16 on the platform and is therefore aimed at an informed public.

Never had a film director come to film like this within a ZAD. We discover their organization, their values, their way of life. But A Zone to Defend is not a plea or an incriminating film.

For this, the director and his screenwriters have chosen to make it more of a romantic drama, choosing the point of view of Greg (François Civil), a tormented young man who brings a lot of humanity.

If A zone to defend is a success when we follow the hero in full infiltration (the actor is perfect in this role), subscribers could hang less with the love story between the two main characters… even if the alchemy between them is undeniable.

This is also not the first time that Lyna Khoudri – who dared to wear dreadlocks for the occasion – and François Civil have given each other the reply. The two actors had done dubbing together on the Pixar Buzz Lightning before meeting for the dantesque project of the Three Musketeers. And we tell ourselves that this is not the last time that these two will meet on the small and the big screen.

A zone to defend, with François Civil, Lyna Khoudri, Nathalie Richard, Nico Rogner, Manon Bresch and Bellamine Abdelmalek. Now on Disney+.
