A 66-year-old man was killed while hunting in Loir-et-Cher.
A 59-year-old hunter was taken into police custody on Monday after a man in his 60s was shot dead during a hunting trip in Loir-et-Cher, the Blois prosecutor’s office announced on Tuesday.
The victim, a 66-year-old hunter, was found unresponsive at the foot of the watchtower on which she was initially installed, suggesting discomfort. When help arrived, “the Samu actually found two holes, one entry and the other exit, in the neck”, caused by a bullet for big game, the prosecution said in a press release.
Unknown to justice, the hunter placed in police custody occupied another watchtower, located in the same alignment, at a distance of approximately 160 meters.
“Only one shot was fired during the hunting action which began around 2:30 p.m., by the hunter” finally arrested. This one “explained having shot at the start of the hunt on a fox” passed between his watchtower and that of the victim.
“It is by firing this shot towards the fox that the bullet would undoubtedly have reached the hunter” killed, reports the prosecution.
“The thesis of a shot reaching the victim by ricochet is privileged”, underlines the prosecution, specifying that an investigation “on the count of manslaughter has been opened”.
The hunting party brought together around twenty hunters in the town of Vallières-les-Grandes, east of Amboise.
