As unlikely as it may seem, a video game, whose goal was based on the exchange, purchase and sale of black characters, was published on the Google Play Store on April 20. Faced with such a normalization of hatred and violence, Brazilian users then massively began to report the application from the Play Store. A large number of racist comments were also present in the comments. All this therefore led to the opening of an investigation aimed at understanding how this slavery simulator had been able to pass the various necessary stages before the publication of an application on the Store.
Google finally reacts by removing the application from its store
It was only last Wednesday, after finally realizing that the content was not suitable, that the Mountain View firm reacted by permanently removing the application from its store. Here’s what she said in a note sent to CNN Brazil : “ We don’t allow apps that incite violence or hatred against individuals or groups based on their race or ethnicity, or that depict or encourage gratuitous violence or other dangerous activities. Anyone who thinks they’ve found an app that violates our rules can file a report. When we identify a policy violation, we take appropriate action “.
Before being removed, the application had been downloaded more than a thousand times. It also had a four out of five star rating on the Play Store. Some, in the comments, even mentioned their past enjoyment of the game, nevertheless mentioning “ the absence of certain tools of torture “… The studio Magnus Games, partly responsible for these abominable remarks, has since affirmed “ condemn slavery » and admits that “The game was created for entertainment purposes only “.
