In January, TF1 will launch its morning news show with Bruce Toussaint. News that does not worry Thomas Sotto and Marie Portolano, presenters of “Télématin” on France 2, whose audiences have been booming since the start of the school year. At the microphone of “Culture Médias”, however, they confirmed the departure of one of their flagship columnists, who will join the TF1 morning show.

Will the arrival of Bruce Toussaint on TF1’s morning news in January reduce audiences for Telematin on France 2? If the show presented by Thomas Sotto and Marie Portolano has been at the top of the morning audiences since the start of the season, with 740,000 viewers each day on average, the two presenters do not seem worried by this new competition. Guests of Culture MediaThomas Sotto and Marie Portolano consider on the contrary that there is “something quite exciting”.

“There is no crisis meeting”

Marie Portolano sees this morning news as a challenge. “I’ve always been told that we’re never better than if we’re challenged. That gives us a little excitement and we’re going to go too,” assures the former sports journalist. An observation shared by Thomas Sotto, who is not afraid of seeing audiences drop. “We are going to fight. To use Marie’s metaphor, if we run while looking into the next corridor, we will hit the wall. Our corridor is quite solid, it is heritage for many families. Telematin is a show that has been watched for 35 years, from father and mother to sons and daughters. There is no crisis meeting, we are constantly thinking and it is not because there, on January 8, there will no longer be TFou and cartoons that it will change anything. We are always in the same permanent situation,” insists the presenter.

Yet, Telematin will lose one of its flagship columnists, Maud Descamps, who will join Bruce Toussaint’s team. A rumor confirmed by Thomas Sotto this Friday morning in Culture Media. “Yes, Maud Descamps is going to TF1 and she is an excellent journalist. It also proves that they will undoubtedly be inspired by us. Afterwards, we are only ever in this profession with the microphone in front which we are sitting in. We wish him good luck, it is a very good choice and we will have other excellent choices to continue to lead Telematin where we want to take it,” assures Thomas Sotto.
