A15 chip, 5G, improved photo… the iPad Air 5 could soon appear

A new iPad Air is on its way. If we should not expect major changes in terms of design, the touch pad would take over some of the new features of the iPad mini 6, launched at the end of last year.

A new iPad Air would indeed be in the boxes at Apple. The mid-range tablet from the Cupertino giant, largely redesigned in 2020 for its 4th generation, would reappear in 2022 in a refreshed version. In particular, it would take over certain new features introduced last year, with the lively iPad mini 6.

At least that’s what MacRumors relayed over the weekend, based on information published a few days ago by Mac Otakara. This Japanese blog had been right, in the past, on the technical specifications of the iPad Air 2020. It was, however, mistaken in predicting the arrival of new AirPods Pro in April 2021. Although credible, the information which will follow are therefore to be taken with a little hindsight.

An announcement next spring?

We discover anyway, and without any real surprise effect, that the 5th generation iPad Air would ship an A15 Bionic chip, coupled with 5G connectivity (optional). Like the iPad mini 6 and the latest iPad Pro, the iPad Air 5 would also adopt a 12MP ultra-wide-angle front sensor, with the Centered Frame function that follows you. Practical technology, especially during video call exchanges. It would finally ship a new True Tone Quad-LED flash for its rear sensor.

Contrary to what previous information from Mac Otakara suggested, the iPad Air 2022 would retain a design close to the current model and would still be satisfied with a single back sensor. We would therefore find a 10.9-inch edge-to-edge screen, a Touch ID fingerprint sensor housed in the lock button on the edge and a USB-C port.

On the presentation side, several Chinese sources of Mac Otakara, considered reliable, evoke the spring of 2022. The iPad Air 5 could be announced there in the company of the new iPhone SE, expected in March or April, during the first appointment of Apple this year.
