Aaron Carter died at the end of 2022. His twin sister Angel spoke openly about her brother’s eventful life.

In November 2022, former teen star Aaron Carter (1987-2022) passed away suddenly. A few months ago, the police concluded the investigation and classified his death as an accident. Backstreet Boy Nick Carter’s (43) brother previously took drugs and then drowned in his bathtub. His twin sister Angel Carter (35) gave an exclusive interview to People magazine where she spoke about her “toxic family dynamic” and Aaron’s mental health struggles.

Speaking to the tabloid, Angel recalled her parents’ alcohol abuse, Jane Schneck and Robert Gene Carter. The parents’ addiction and Aaron and Nick’s early contact with fame and fortune had a negative impact on the entire family: “Fame and money have taken over in our family.” All of that pressure pushed Aaron into addiction himself, Angel said.

“The beginning of the end”

Throughout the 2000s, he made headlines with his drug abuse and was even arrested several times. Two strokes of fate are said to have made it difficult for him. In 2012, his then 25-year-old sister Leslie (1986-2012) died of an overdose. His father died in 2017 – he is said to have previously suffered a heart attack. “I always felt like this was the beginning of the end. Aaron was not doing well before that, but it was like a domino effect,” Angel said.

Aaron was later diagnosed with schizophrenia and personality disorders. He received treatment and admitted himself to a rehab clinic. Still, Angel watched her brother livestream disturbingly in the last few years before his death. In it, he inhaled gas from canisters, found himself surrounded by guns, and told his community his family planned to kill him. “I just kept waiting for him to break up with it. But he never did,” said Angel.

The 35-year-old recalled her brother’s striving for happiness and contentment: “He really fought to the end but had too many problems to solve. He became this person that we didn’t recognize. Me I don’t think he even recognized himself.”

Bad relationship with mother

Last March, Aaron shocked Carter’s mother by posting photos of the scene of the accident. Schneck claimed her son received death threats and that authorities ignored her fears. In May she was briefly arrested on charges of domestic violence. She is said to have gotten into an argument with her husband under the influence of alcohol.

Angel has no contact with her mother. She described posting the photos as an “invasion of privacy,” which Angel said Aaron never wanted. She is now involved with an organization that takes care of the mental health of children. “It’s much easier to raise a strong child than to heal a broken adult,” she said. For them it is clear: Aaron should not be remembered for his “final years of life”. Aaron is said not to have died “in vain”.

On July 28, Angel Carter and her husband held a memorial service for Aaron Carter. His ashes were buried in a Los Angeles cemetery.
