Biotech has been granted a Compassionate Access Authorization (AAC) for its bio-HDL (CER-001) in Covid-19.

Abionyx Pharma jumped 42% on Tuesday on the Paris Stock Exchange, to 3.57 euros. Biotech, which has just formalized the takeover of Iris, announced that the National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) has granted a Compassionate Access Authorization (AAC) for bio-HDL (CER-001) in the Covid-19.
Compassionate access replaces certain more restrictive regulatory procedures concerning drugs for which manufacturers do not envisage an MA (marketing authorization) in France even though they meet a therapeutic need. They must, however, commit to an early access request if they are considering clinical and commercial development in a given indication.

Covid-19 is associated with respiratory symptoms characterized by acute lung injury and progressing to acute respiratory distress syndrome, Abionyx recalls in its press release: ” Pulmonary dysfunction is quickly accompanied by a significant ‘cytokine storm’ in which inflammatory cytokines are liberally released into the blood causing tissue damage in the host. “
Decreases in total cholesterol, LDL (bad cholesterol) and HDL (“good” cholesterol) levels have been observed in patients with Covid infections. Patients with low HDL on admission to hospital had an increased risk of developing severe disease compared to patients with high HDL. With recovery from Covid-19 infections, serum lipid levels return to levels present before infection. CER-001, a recombinant bio-HDL developed by Abionyx Pharma, could be likely to improve the clinical outcome of patients with Covid-19, the company said in its press release.
On the stock market, the share has more than tripled over one year (+ 236%) and more than six-fold over the past three years.
