Actor Bernard Hill, captain of the ship in “Titanic” and king of Rohan in “The Lord of the Rings,” has died

The British actor Bernard Hill, who had played in Titanic and in The Lord of the Ringsdied at the age of 79, Sunday May 5, his agent announced to British media.

The general public mainly knew Bernard Hill for his role as captain of the Titanic in the film of the same name by James Cameron released in 1997 and a global success.

Prolific career also on television

He also played the king of Rohan, Théoden, in the trilogy adapted from Lord of the Ringsreleased in the early 2000s, and he had played many supporting roles, as in At the sources of the Nileby Bob Rafelson (1990), or in Found guilty (1999), by Clint Eastwood.

Revealed in the early 1980s for his role as an unemployed man in the multi-award winning television series Boys From the BlackstuffBernard Hill also had a prolific career on British television.
