Actually a Ford – A first look at VW’s new Transporter Bulli

In the past, a VW bus was just a VW bus. With different body shapes, but technically basically the same. Now there is the electric VW ID.Buzz as a Stromer and the conventionally powered Multivan. The VW bus as a commercial vehicle is not yet available as a new version. But now the successor to the T6.1 is finally coming. But it’s actually a Ford.

The model, probably called T7, comes from the commercial vehicle cooperation with Ford and is based on the Transit Custom. Two different lengths and heights are planned, and in addition to the classic panel van, other body variants are coming onto the market, including station wagons, Caravelles and flatbed trucks with a double cab. In addition to conventional four-cylinder diesels, there is also a plug-in hybrid and a pure electric motor for the drive for optional. Ford is also likely to contribute the technology there in the form of the 160 kW/218 hp electric drive. The range should be over 300 kilometers. With the new van, the three-member Bulli family is complete. While all variants of the model were previously based on a basic vehicle, the VW Multivan, built using car technology, now takes on the role of the family van, while the ID.Buzz, which is offered exclusively electrically, is intended to attract lifestyle customers and the van is primarily intended to attract commercial users. Technically, the three Bullis hardly have anything in common. Volkswagen isn’t revealing anything more yet. The commercial vehicle division only whets the appetite for the T7 with a video that shows camouflage-wrapped models.
