  • Marco Odermatt wins the Adelboden giant.

  • Now he wants to relax for the first time.

  • In the evening there is still a small celebration.

“Odi, Odi, Odi, Odieeee” – to the tune of Hulapalu, 13,000 spectators celebrated their Adelboden hero Marco Odermatt. The huge triumph from Nidwalden was celebrated by the fans after his victory. He almost sang along with the Odi song himself, but in the end he decided against it. No wonder: after all, he was already singing the Swiss anthem with great fervor.

It was a historic appearance by the 24-year-old. No Swiss had won a giant slalom on Chuenisbergli since 2008. This although, as he himself says, he was also under great pressure. No wonder: eight cars with Odermatt fans set off for Adelboden in the early hours of the morning. Armed with cowbells, they created a good mood outside the stands after the race too.

Odermatt could hardly find words for the success at the subsequent press conference. “It means a lot to me. I don’t have much to say. It’s an emotional day. It was just really great. ” He once again emphasized the mental part: “In a race like today in front of a home crowd, your head decides whether you go all the way. Before the second run I said to myself that I didn’t want to finish second. ” A wish that was impressively fulfilled.

Special praise from Pinturault

Odermatt couldn’t say much about his plans for the evening. However, he added: “I will now go to the hotel, eat something for the first time of the day and relax a bit. But there will certainly be a party this evening. ” The next item on the program for Odermatt will be the official award ceremony. At 7 p.m. the five best drivers will be honored again. That means: Odermatt won’t be the only Swiss there. Justin Murisier finished fourth on his birthday. The chants will probably have cheered him up.

By the way: Odermatt received special praise from Alexis Pinturault for his achievements. The Frenchman said: “Marco is currently driving very fast. Especially in the giant slalom. If he doesn’t win, he’ll be second. It shows where I want to go. ”

Thousands sing for Justin Murisier.
