Adele: Your Jamaican bikini has been criticized

The British singer Adele causes outrage at the Caribbean Carnival with her Jamaican look, including pigtails and feather jewelry.

The British singer Adele (32) appeared at the traditional Notting Hill Carnival in London in a Jamaican look. While some fans praised the outfit, the appearance caused a lot of excitement. The street festival, which is celebrated online this year, takes place annually in the British capital and celebrates Caribbean and African immigrant cultures. The slim Adele wore a bikini top with the Jamaica flag printed on it, her hair was done in Bantu style in small pigtails, and yellow feather headdress completed her outfit.

But this look annoyed the fans. "Cultural appropriation" is the name that activists use to raise awareness of subtle forms of racism. One commenter pointed out the problem: "Black women were discriminated against because of this cultural hairstyle." For whites, on the other hand, this look would be okay, it would be unfair and make people angry.

Naomi Campbell is thrilled

Not all fans felt attacked by Adele's look. The dark-skinned model Naomi Campbell (50), whose mother comes from Jamaica, commented enthusiastically and uncritically with a black heart and Jamaica flag symbols. Another dark-skinned commentator tried to convey, "It would be most productive if we spent half of our time listening to and understanding each other rather than dismissing each other's feelings."

Adele isn't the first celebrity to put up with allegations of abuse of culture. The singers Katy Perry (35), Beyoncé (38), Taylor Swift (30) or singer Chris Martin (43) from Coldplay, but also the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (48) have already been in the crossfire of criticism in this regard.
