Irish airline Aer Lingus has been forced to cancel all of its scheduled Saturday afternoon flights from Dublin to Europe and the UK, and some of those from Europe, after a computer glitch , she said in a statement.
“Due to a major incident with a network operator, our cloud-based check-in, boarding and website systems are currently inaccessible,” the company said.
“Unfortunately, this is causing significant disruption to Aer Lingus services today (Saturday). As a result, all of our scheduled flights from Dublin Airport to destinations in Europe and the UK at from 2:00 p.m. today (Saturday) must be canceled,” she added, adding that she did not know at this stage how long the outage would last.
A little later, the company announced that its flights scheduled after 2 p.m. from Europe to Dublin were also canceled, except those from Portugal and Spain, although delays are expected for the latter.
Photos posted on the social network Twitter show long queues at Dublin airport, while the company “apologizes to all customers” affected by these cancellations.
