(Boursier.com) — Aviation industry leaders from the United States and Europe announced the establishment of cooperation aimed at preventing the entry of falsified parts into the supply chain and strengthening its integrity.

Founding members of the Aviation Supply Chain Integrity Cooperation include executives fromAirbus, American Airlines, Boeing, Delta Air LinesGE Aerospace, SaffronStandard Aero and United Airlines.

Robert Sumwalt (former chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board) and John Porcari (former United States Deputy Secretary of Transportation) will serve as co-chairs.

The establishment of the cooperation builds on the rapid and decisive actions taken last year by CFM International and its parent companies, GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines, when AOG Technics sold engine parts accompanied by falsified documents . Although an in-depth review found that less than 1 percent of CFM engines were affected and most of the parts involved were unnumbered items like bolts, washers and bushings, the coalition will look more broadly at prevention of future similar actions.

The cooperation began its work this month, launching a 90-day analysis to determine opportunities to strengthen existing supply chain operations. This work will form the basis of a comprehensive report with recommendations to ensure safety standards are met and prevent the introduction of unapproved aeronautical parts into the supply chain. The cooperation approach covers the entire industry, drawing on the expertise of manufacturers, airlines and MRO workshops, among others. This report is expected later this year.
