After My Policeman with Harry Styles, these other LGBT nuggets to discover on Prime Video

The release of My Policeman on November 4 on Prime Video is an opportunity to zoom in on the platform’s LGBT selection. Films, series, documentaries: there is something for everyone!

My Policeman

Released on November 4 exclusively on Prime Video, My Policeman is the latest gem to join the platform’s catalog. Harry Styles plays Tom, a police officer. When his path crosses that of Marion and Patrick, he finds himself drawn into a journey rich in emotions: Marion is in love with Tom, who only has eyes for Patrick… In England in the 1950s, where homosexuality is still a crime, they will try as best they can to leave no room for regret.

Carried by the fair and delicate interpretation of Harry Styles (still on the poster of Don’t Worry Darling), My Policeman is a subtle reflection on the laws of love, but also of friendship. Supported by Emma Corrin (The Crown) and David Dawson (The Last Kingdom), the pop-star delivers a moving performance which, like the characters of Marion and Patrick, will not fail to seduce you.

Transparent

On the series side, Transparent is undoubtedly made for you! When their father Morton arranges an emergency reunion, Ali, Joshua and Sarah expect bad news. But what they learn is very different: this one has decided to become Maura.

Far from the usual clichés, Transparent is a true model of writing and interpretation: sometimes cruel, sometimes funny and touching, the characters gravitate around this revelation which turns their lives upside down, react to it, learn to understand it. Rewarded with a Golden Globe for Best Comedy Series in 2015, then four Emmy Awards, Transparent is proving to be an unmissable part of the Prime Video catalog, to be discovered in its entirety on the platform.

Mapplethorpe

Died of AIDS in 1989, Robert Mapplethorpe remains one of the most famous American photographers, especially for his sulphurous works. But did you know that his life was just as important?

Fans of Matt Smith (Doctor Who, House of the Dragon) will be delighted to discover him in this frenzied biopic, roaming the galleries, camera around his neck. Patti Smith, Holly Solomon, Sam Wagstaff…: great New York figures meet the deliciously irreverent artist, discover his exhibitions and fall under his spell.

The director, Ondi Timoner, is best known for her documentary The Purple Horizon about the 1993 Washington Pride march.

Nina

Warsaw today. After twenty years of marriage, the relationship between Nina (Julia Kijowska) and her husband is going nowhere, in part because of their difficulty having a child. When the couple meet a young woman, Magda (Eliza Rycembel), he asks her to become their surrogate mother. Things get complicated when Nina begins to feel attracted to Magda.

When it was released in 2018, Nina caused a sensation. Winner of a Big Screen Prize at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and two awards at the Polish Film Festival, Olga Chajdas’ feature film is appreciated for its delicate and subtle staging of the budding love between two women who are nonetheless very different, but brought together around the theme of motherhood. A little gem to discover without delay on Prime Video!

Sexual revolutions

From the appearance of the bikini to gay marriage, the small stories mingle with the big one to tell the revolution that has upset social behavior.

This documentary, in two parts, retraces the long and tedious historical struggle leading to the progressive liberation of the sexes. Instructive, ingenious and surprising, Sexual Revolutions is a compendium of knowledge on LGBT struggles, an ideal knowledge manual that everyone should have in their library. To see, urgently!

These programs are to be discovered on Prime Video.
