After raids – UVP scandal: second attempt for U-committee

Raids on top officials in the country’s environmental department are now causing a political furore: the Greens are again demanding a committee of inquiry in the state parliament. However, this would require the support of Mario Kunasek and the FPÖ – but they are hesitant and are waiting for a report from the Court of Auditors.

Abuse of office and bribery: There are serious allegations being made against two suspended officers from the country’s Department 13. They are said to have not correctly processed environmental impact assessments (EIA) for large projects for years. Four suspects are being investigated, and the presumption of innocence applies to all of them. On Saturday, the “Krone” revealed that the two top officials had been searched. Once again, the Greens are calling for the scandal to be clarified in a committee of inquiry on Saturday. Lambert Schönleitner: “He can efficiently shed light on the matter in just a few sessions. It’s about hearing key witnesses in order to create the necessary transparency and to examine the system. “We will once again emphatically remind Mario Kunasek and the FPÖ of the state parliament’s responsibility for control,” says Schönleitner. The addressed Kunasek replies to a “Krone” request: They want to wait for a report from the Federal Audit Office. “In any case, crude political sensationalism has no place here.”
