Players of the popular FIFA 22 Ultimate Team mode are currently being informed that an icon is no longer part of the game. Marc Overmars’ card has been removed from FUT following reports of “inappropriate messages” to staff at Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam.
Anyone who currently opens FIFA 22 on console or PC will be informed that EA Sports has blocked Marc Overmars’ icon cards. The three versions of the player can no longer be found in packs and can no longer be used in drafts.
However, if you already have the player in your team, you can breathe a sigh of relief: In this case, the card can continue to be kept and used. So that the ban does not make the player too expensive on the transfer market, EA has set the price ranges for the Overmars variants so that they cannot be sold too expensively.
Marc Overmars is kicked out of FIFA 22: these are the reasons
The background: Overmars resigned as football director at the traditional club as a result of reports of inappropriate text messages to employees of Ajax Amsterdam. “I’m ashamed,” said the 48-year-old former Dutch international, according to a club statement released on Sunday night. “I apologize. This behavior is certainly unacceptable for someone in my position. I see that now.” CEO Edwin van der Sar called the situation “terrible for everyone” and promised to pay more attention in the future.
According to Ajax, Overmars has been sending inappropriate messages to several female employees for an extended period of time. After retiring as a professional, he has worked in the club’s management since 2012. His contract was recently extended to 2026.
