Sixty-one proposals for “Strengthen a culture of respect” : systematic initiation of an internal investigation after a report of gender-based or sexual violence, deployment on campuses of referees … five months after the outbreak of the Duhamel affair, Sciences Po published a report on Tuesday, May 4 – downloadable from its website – aimed at combating sexual violence.
On the one hand, a working group chaired by Catherine de Salins, member of the Council of State, has examined since February the question of ethics within the establishment. At the same time, another working group led by sociologist Danièle Hervieu-Léger studied the issue of sexual and gender-based violence for two months, at the center of the #sciencesporcs movement launched in February by students claiming to be victims or witnesses of gender-based behavior and violence. and sexual, including rape, in several IEPs in France.
The two women were chosen in February after the General Inspectorate of Education, Sport and Research (IGESR) toured the ten French IEPs to investigate the dysfunctions denounced by students and the media.
Following the Duhamel affair, “These two questions of ethics and gender-based and sexual violence were put to the institution in a very brutal manner, but today we are showing that we have been able to learn from them and come up with concrete ideas for moving forward”, congratulated AFP Bénédicte Durand, provisional administrator of Sciences Po Paris.
Security protocols for the organization of student parties
Systematic triggering of an internal investigation following a report, deployment of referees on campuses, publicity of the sanctions pronounced while preserving the anonymity of the persons involved or even the establishment of a security protocol to be followed for the he organization of student parties by associations is one of the sixty-one recommendations.
Stressing that “The stake is crucial for the very future of the establishment”, the authors of the report recommend the installation of a pole bringing together, with the general management, both the different missions (fight against gender-based and sexual violence, gender equality mission, etc.) and tools for intervention such as ethics bodies, a disciplinary unit, a monitoring unit on social networks.
“I am personally committed to moving forward on the issue of victim care on the seven campuses [de Sciences Po], as well as on the overhaul of the disciplinary procedure, and I will propose in June, for the next school year, a concrete action plan ”, assured Bénédicte Durand.
Bénédicte Durand was appointed interim director in February after the resignation of former director Frédéric Mion. A new director should be appointed next fall.
