Affected by a social conflict relating to wages and working conditions in early July, Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle airport faced numerous delays accompanied by dozens of preventive cancellations and the loss of numerous pieces of luggage.
This difficult start to the summer explains the presence of the leading French airport on the podium of the airports most affected by delays throughout the world. This ranking, produced by CNN, is the result of a compilation of data from the FlightAware site between May 26 and July 19. For example, Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada is experiencing delays on more than half (52.5%) of its flights.
Mayhem at European airports
In the 10 airports most affected by delays, seven are European. Like Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle, many have been in chaos for several months with cancellations, delays, long queues or problems with baggage delivery. Frankfurt (45.4%) and Roissy (43.2%) airport complete the podium. Then come Amsterdam Schipol airport and the two London airports. Heathrow Airport has suffered in recent days from a strike over the salaries of refueling staff and high temperatures (Heathrow is the location of the UK’s heat record).

In mid-July, after dozens of cancellations, the airport announced that it would limit the number of departing passengers to 100,000 per day for two months, or 4,000 less than its forecast, due to a lack of staff. Munich, Athens, Sydney and Orlando occupy the last places in the top 10.
