Shortly after the game appeared during the PlayStation Showcase, Remedy Entertainment announced in an FAQ that Alan Wake 2 will not offer a physical copy upon release. The studio explains that this allows it to reduce the price of the title, especially since many players now have digital-only consoles. This does not prevent some from expressing their disappointment.
Among the many exciting announcements from last night’s PlayStation Showcase, one in particular caught the attention of many fans: the new trailer for Alan Wake 2, the game no one believed in until just a few years ago. However, this time, it’s the right one, since the next title from Remedy Entertainment (Max Payne, Control) now has the right to a release date: the October 17, 2023.
To mark the occasion, the studio has also published an FAQ on the game’s official website, which deals with the usual questions such as the need to make the first opus or the selling price at the exit. One question, however, has caused a lot of ink to flow since last night. Indeed, Remedy took advantage of this platform to announce unexpected news: Alan Wake 2 will only be available in dematerialized version.
No physical version for Alan Wake 2, Remedy is justified
“There are several reasons for this. First of all, a large number of players have switched to dematerialized only”writes the studio, referring to the PS5 Digital Edition as well as the Xbox Series S. “It is not uncommon for current games to be available only in dematerialized version”, he continues. Remedy also invokes the financial argument, explaining that this decision allows him to sell the game at the price of €59.99 on consoles and €49.99 on PCwhich would not have been possible with a physical copy.

Finally, the studio indicates that it does not wish “ship a disc that would require the game to be downloaded”. So many reasons that are not enough to appease the anger of some players. On social networks, many have expressed their disappointment since last night. “It’s the most bogus excuse they could come up with. No big deal, there are plenty of other games to do this year», said one of them. Others also indicate that they will not buy the game until it is available in physical version.
