Alarm in Uderns – two injured in a dust explosion in the Zillertal

In Uderns in the Tyrolean Zillertal there was an explosion in a carpentry shop on Saturday afternoon. Two people suffered burns to their faces. The cause of the explosion was initially unclear.

A Brazilian (57) and an Austrian (35) were informed by SMS about a malfunction in the sawdust silo of the joinery and wanted to investigate. When the two entered the carpentry shop, there was likely to be an explosion. The woman and the man suffered second-degree burns to their faces.

With rescue in the clinic
A neighbor heard the explosion. He notified the rescue workers and provided first aid. The two injured were brought to the clinic in Innsbruck. Due to the force of the explosion, the access gate to the joinery was also torn from its hinges. The Uderns and Fügen fire brigades had to move in to extinguish embers in the silo.

What exactly triggered the explosion in the company is currently unclear, investigations are ongoing.
