all about his official repair kit just launched

During its life, a phone has to go through tough tests, where falls and other shocks punctuate its daily life. Breaking your screen or even the back cover is a relatively common and sometimes annoying event for the user experience or the purely visual aspect of the product.

In this case, several solutions exist: go to a physical store, go through an online repair service, call a home repairman, use the manufacturer’s after-sales service or repair your mobile yourself. This last option is very often risky in view of the difficulties inherent in the maneuver.

Three components to replace

However, some manufacturers offer their own repair kit. In April, Apple introduced its Self Service Repair program, although very cumbersome to replace a 30 gram battery. This time, and as expected, it’s Samsung’s turn to get started with a brand new kit launched on August 2, announced the Korean brand in a press release.

This self-repair program focuses on three flagship products in the range: Galaxy S20 (Galaxy S20 Plus, Galaxy S20 Ultra), Galaxy S21 (Galaxy S21 Plus, Galaxy S21 Ultra) and Galaxy Tab 7 Plus. For the occasion, the Asian giant has teamed up with the essential iFixit platform.

Users are thus able to purchase genuine parts and repair tools directly from iFixt, as well as Samsung 837 (a New York specialty store) and Samsung retail outlets. For the moment, this project seems to be confined to the United States. Samsung does not mention Europe or other regions of the world in its press release.

In total, three types of components can be replaced: the screen and the battery – visibly inseparable -, the charging port and the glass of the rear panel, for respective prices of 167.99 dollars for the first and 66, $99 for the last two. It is then possible to follow instructive guides made available free of charge.

Beware of the galley

It should be remembered, however, that the Galaxy S21, for example, are not the most famous in terms of home repair. The S21 Ultra had notably received the score of 3/10 by iFixit, a score located at the antipodes of the French repairability index which had awarded it the score of 8.2/10.

The massive use of glue to hold the battery in place, but also the screen and the rear panel, did not plead in favor of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The often non-modular cables of the components had also made a bad impression. The Galaxy S21 did slightly better with a 4/10, without being an example either.

In any case, this gives us a first idea of the Samsung repair kit reserved for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21 and Galaxy Tab 7 Plus. We contacted the brand to find out more about a potential European launch.
