A new police mini-series, “Sacha”, arrives Thursday evening on Arte. Around six episodes, it reveals the story of a Geneva prosecutor accused of having shot a man she had known for a long time. At the microphone of Europe 1, the director explains the complexity of the character, and says that this story is inspired by the life of a judge.

INTERVIEW

A new mini-series is coming to Arte. The first episode of Sasha airs Thursday evening from 8:50 p.m. on the seventh channel. At first glance, however, the heroine is not called Sacha but Anne Dupraz, a prosecutor from Geneva. At the start of the miniseries, the main character finds himself in police custody for shooting a man the prosecutor has known for 20 years. Through flashbacks, the episodes go back to the past of this woman who refuses to explain her gesture to the investigators, as well as to her daughter.

Show a “strong and dangerous” heroine

At the microphone of Europe 1, the director of the series Léa Fazer explains why she chose this character, a woman of justice, confronted in turn with the judicial machine. “The heroine is a woman who has been exploited in her past, and by setting her up as a criminal from the outset, we show her strong and dangerous”, she says on Europe 1. “What I found interesting , is to show that being a victim does not mean that you are weak, quite the contrary”, continues the director.

A series based on a true story

In this series, which mixes other stories of murders, the main character Anne Dupraz will herself carry out an investigation into her life by digging into her traumatic memories linked to her prostitution, and to this man she killed. A series of suspense all the more astonishing that it is inspired by the life of a real judge. “The idea for the series was born 25 years ago, when I met Nicole Castioni. She became a judge after being a prostitute for five years”, confides Léa Frazer on the origins of this psychological thriller at the microphone of Philippe Vandel.

The director continues: “All the flashbacks are taken from her experience. Nicole is a woman who has shown exceptional resilience, and we have thought all these years about how we could represent her completely extraordinary journey”. To make the series, Léa Frazer imagined what would happen “if Nicole, who got away with it today, at the bend of a case, would fall on her former pimp?” The detective mini-series Sasha will be broadcast in six episodes, all of which are already available on the arte.tv platform.
