Marvel and the great American filmmakers, it’s not mad love. However, one of them recently declared that he particularly liked two MCU films! This director is not just anyone, since it is Michael Mann, to whom we owe the classic Heat.
Michael Mann is therefore not like Martin Scorsese, whose rejection of Marvel created controversy a few years ago. For him, there is good in the superheroic studio, and especially in two very specific opuses.
“I think the films Guardians of the Galaxy, for example, not necessarily the last part, but the first two, work really well. I love watching these movies.”declares Michael Mann during The Playlist’s The Discourse podcast.
“The reason they work is that they have a very, very good narrative structure as a foundation.”
“I find it exciting to create a myth and expand it. I think it’s a very exciting medium”adds the American, who nevertheless does not see himself producing a work of this type at all. “I want to make a science fiction film, but it will be without superheroes.”
After eight years of absence, Michael Mann will soon unveil Ferrari, which sees Adam Driver slip into the shoes of Enzo Ferrari, a former racing driver in crisis. Bankruptcy threatens the company that he and his wife, Laura (Penélope Cruz), created from scratch ten years earlier.
While their tumultuous marriage must face the loss of one son and the recognition of another, Enzo, in an attempt to ensure their survival, decides to participate in the legendary Mille Miglia race. The feature film will be available in 2024 on the Prime Video service.
