On the occasion of the broadcast of the cult film Alone in the world on Sunday January 23, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on 6ter, Télé Star reveals the island on which the filming of this feature film took place.
Released in cinemas in 2000, the cult movie Alone in the world, worn by Tom Hanks, will be rebroadcast on Sunday January 23, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on 6ter. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, this feature film features the character of Chuck Noland, played on screen by Tom Hanks. working for the company FedEx, the latter is called urgently on a flight, on Christmas Eve, while he was having dinner with his fiancée and his family. Victim of serious damage, the cargo plane he was in crashes, and he is the only one to survive. He then finds himself stranded on a desert island, surrounded by impassable coral reefs, in the Pacific Ocean, where he must learn to survive.
Throughout his stay, which lasted more than 4 years, Chuck Noland will maintain, to hold on, an imaginary friendship with a volleyball, whom he named Wilson, from the plane’s cargo. The script for this feature film is freely inspired by the iconic character of Robinson Crusoe. The filming of Alone in the world started in Moscow in 1999, before being relocated to Los Angeles, and finally to the Fiji Islands, including Monuriki Island. The shooting took place in two parts, separated by about a year. This long break allowed Tom Hanks to lose weight (from 100 to 77 Kg), and let his hair and beard grow, for the second part of the film.
Alone in the world: a filming location difficult to find
Director Robert Zemeckis and part of the team have took advantage of this waiting period to shoot another film, baptized Appearances. The production then returned to Fiji, more than a year after their last visit. The desert island that was going to serve as the main setting was very difficult to find. The film crew traveled most of the South Pacific archipelagos before discovering the volcanic island of Monuriki, in the northwest of Fiji. With a steep peak, a sandy beach, and coconut palms, this large island of 99 arpents represented the ideal setting for the filming of the film.
