Investigators find kidnapped children from Ukraine in Russia

Russia is said to have kidnapped tens of thousands of Ukrainian children. Together with Europol, investigators from 23 countries are now finding the whereabouts of eight abducted people. The police said the information was handed over to Kiev.

International investigators, together with Europol, have found the whereabouts of eight possibly kidnapped Ukrainian children in Russia. The children were probably deported to the neighboring country during the Russian invasion, Dutch police said.

60 investigators from 23 countries took part in the search operation at Europol’s headquarters in The Hague. The information was handed over to the Ukrainian authorities. “We hope that the children can return home quickly,” said Vincent Cillessen from the Dutch police’s international crimes team.

According to the information, the children’s whereabouts were discovered online and using digital sources and facial recognition. Experts from Great Britain, Australia and the USA also took part in the campaign. Since the war began almost two years ago, tens of thousands of children from Ukraine are said to have been abducted by the Russians.

The International Criminal Court based in The Hague has therefore already initiated investigations and issued international arrest warrants against Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Lwowa-Belova.
