Amazon will install its drones in several countries around the world starting next year.
The e-commerce giant has been testing its drones for several years now. But the service, which has made all futuristic souls dream, is for the moment only a very small detail among the billions of operations carried out by Amazon. However, Jeff Bezos’ group intends to develop it in the future, with international deployment from 2024.
Italy and the United Kingdom are first served
Amazon’s drone service may be a reality, but it is currently only available at two sites in the United States, namely Lockeford, California and College Station, Texas. However, the network should develop from next year.
With this idea, a third American site would benefit from the famous drones, which should also finally cross the Atlantic. Because Europe will in turn begin to be served by these flying machines, with establishments planned by Amazon first in the United Kingdom and Italy.
Several thousand eligible products
For the moment, the name of the two cities which will be used as a starting point for the deployment of this Prime Air service in Europe has not yet been revealed. People who have subscribed to this offer will be able to receive the product(s) ordered in less than an hour.
And to support this ambition, Amazon will use the MK30 drone, which has many advantages over the previous generation of drones. It is in fact lighter, quieter, more resistant to high and low temperatures than the latter, and can also travel a distance twice as long.
It would also be more agile, and equipped with the ability to spot static obstacles, but also moving ones, such as birds that could fly nearby. Enough to allow it to serve fairly densely populated cities. Thus, several thousand products available at Amazon would be eligible for Prime Air.
