AMD’s Ryzen 5000 processors are currently produced in revision B2. This new revision takes advantage of various optimizations that result in lower power consumption and better memory support.

CPUs typically have multiple lives. Over the course of their marketing, it is not uncommon for manufacturers to identify bugs or optimization points. This is not irremediable, and the processors are then corrected, optimized, via new revisions of production.
The Ryzen 5000s for desktop computers are no exception to the rule. Initially produced in revision B0, these chips now leave TSMC factories in revision B2. A change which must necessarily correct some microbugs, but which above all brings its share of optimizations to the operation of these processors.
The new revision thus makes it possible to observe a reduced electrical consumption, which is reflected in particular by a lower operating temperature. According to overclocker Shamino – who works for Asus in particular –, these optimizations translate, for example, into a reduction in power consumption of 30 W on the Ryzen 9 5950X, which allows it to operate at a lower temperature of 9 ° C. compared to revision B0. The maximum operating frequency would also be increased by 60 MHz.
Finally, this revision also brings with it better RAM support. DDR4-4100 modules would thus be better supported. Unfortunately, and as often, it will be difficult to know which revision is offered by the resellers, as they do not always indicate this data. This, although AMD now only produces Ryzen 5000 B2s.
