A welcome addition for those who do not own an RTX, but which unfortunately has no impact on the quality of the title…
The opposition between AMD and NVIDIA in the field of graphics cards is no longer limited to the battlefield of GPUs, but widely encompasses the software ecosystem, with the help of DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) of FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) for the contingents of players. A flagship game on the video game scene, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare IIIfinally gave in to AMD’s latest trappings by integrating the FSR 3.
DLSS and FSR now on equal footing
For memory, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, umpteenth reboot of the opus Modern Warfareand more precisely Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III from 2011, was released on November 10, 2023. The game received a very mixed reception: it has a Metascore of 56 and a user score of only 2.0.
From the launch, GeForce RTX 40 owners were able to exploit the latest version of NVIDIA technology, namely DLSS 3 with Frame Generation.
Unlike other recent productions, the title published by Activision was not, however, exclusive, since it also offered, again upon its release, the AMD FSR 2.1 and the Intel XeSS 1.2. So it’s just upgraded to the latest version of AMD’s scaling technology, the FSR 3.
A handful of FSR 3 compatible games
This adoption brings the number of FSR 3 compatible games to six. Here is the exhaustive list:
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
- Forspoken
- Immortals of Aveum
- Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Cleared His Name
- MotorCubs RC
- Call of Duty Modern Warfare III & Warzone
The main advantage of FSR 3 over DLSS is that it is not limited to recent Radeons. Indeed, its “standard” version, that is to say without frame generation, is supported by graphics cards as old as the RX 590 and the GTX 10 Series.
The FSR 3.0 association with Frame Generation is, however, a little more restrictive, since it only begins with the RX 5000 and RTX 20 Series.
In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III And Warzoneplayers can choose from the options “Ultra Performance”, “Performance”, “Balanced”, “Quality” and “Native” for FSR 3. Note that Native is antialiasing without scaling.
Finally, remember that owners of Radeon graphics cards will receive stable drivers for Fluid Motion Frames on January 24.
