L’USB 4 version 2 does not seem to want to be limited to the “weak” 80 Gb/s mentioned above.
At the very end of the week, there was talk of version 2 of the recent USB 4, a standard that is still underdeveloped. We then communicated on good news: it will not be necessary to change the cable to take advantage of the new speeds of 80 Gb / s.
120 Gb/s, but only in one direction
Today, we are again talking about USB 4 version 2 through details on an asymmetrical mode already mentioned on several occasions. This mode must make it possible to reach speeds of 120 Gb / s, in one direction, necessarily.
The idea is simply to allocate three of the four data pairs to the upstream connection, while the fourth pair is tied to the downstream connection. Each pair being limited to 40 Gb/s, we end up with 120 Gb/s in one direction and 40 Gb/s in the other.
The asymmetrical operation of USB by USB-C cables is not new: the DisplayPort Alternate Mode already uses this principle to broadcast conventional video.
