An Intel Xeon W9-3495 preview: 56 cores and more than 100 MB of cache

Clearly not the processor of Mr. Everybody, but undoubtedly a future competitor of AMD’s Threadripper Pro.

If Intel has already mentioned sending its Xeon Scalable processors based on Sapphire Rapids, this is not what we are talking about today. Indeed, alongside these chips for data centers, the American is also preparing Sapphire Rapids called “HEDT”.

56 cores / 112 threads and 350 Watts of TDP

Behind this not necessarily well-known acronym hide chips designed for servers, but rearranged to suit very specific uses, workstations in need of parallelism in particular.

For some time now, this segment has been the preserve of AMD, which is preparing to triumph once again with the Threadripper Pro 5000 on Zen 3 architecture, which has just been marketed.

Intel could, however, have a response as this leak around the Xeon W-3400 range suggests. Processors that Intel has already begun to distribute to its closest partners.

Unsurprisingly, these Xeons are therefore based on the Sapphire Rapids architecture in order to boost Intel’s HEDT segment. The most powerful model in the range would be the Xeon X9-3495X: it could count on a whopping 56 cores to try to overshadow the Threadripper Pro.

On this product, the frequency is limited to 1.8 GHz, but other models – less rich in hearts – obviously climb higher. All CPUs have in common that they support large amounts of RAM thanks to the eight associated DDR5-4800 slots.

As you can see above, the complete range seems to consist of 9 models, the first three references indicated by our colleagues from Videocardz are engineering samples.
