When does filming end?Andor season 2 ?

According to the media Collider: the cameras started rolling in November 2022. More precisely, Tony Gilroy, the showrunner of the series, explained to Collider that the first sequences are filmed in London. Filming is now complete, ScreenRant has learned. In an article published on February 9, 2024, the media indicates that Diego Luna, the actor who plays the main character, announced the news on his Instagram account. He notably thanked all the teams in the series, noting that “ more than 700 people » had worked on the production of this 2nd season.

Filming, which was originally supposed to end in August 2023, was therefore several months late, in particular because of the strike by American screenwriters and actors.

When will season 2 be released?Andor ?

Sadly, the new season won’t be airing anytime soon. Filming, which was supposed to end in August 2023, was finally completed in February 2024 – a delay due to the strike of American actors and screenwriters. But it is not because filming is finished that the series is ready to be broadcast: time must be added for post-production, in particular for editing and the addition of special effects. It is therefore very unlikely that it will be released in 2024.

In an interview with The Wrap, Tony Gilroy indicated that the post-production ofAndor had lasted almost a year — we guess that it will take a similar length for season 2. The series should therefore probably not return before 2025 — at best, at the beginning of the year.

Where to watch season 2 ofAndor ?

What will the new season be about?

The last episode of season 1, and particularly the post-credits scene, gives valuable clues to the plot of season 2. We thus see during these few seconds the terrible Death Star, the ultimate weapon of the ‘Empire, whose construction seems soon to be completed. We therefore suspect that season 2 will mainly focus on the latter.

Another clue concerning the plot of future episodes: the robot K2SO, companion of Cassian Andor in Rogue One. We see a very similar robot in one episode, and season 2 could tell us how the two characters met and started working together.

We also know that season 2 will have a different timeline. Season 1 covered a period of one year, during which we see Cassian go from an unassuming petty thief into a true member of the rebellion. Season 2 will cover 4 years. During these four years, we should see Cassian “ learn to be a leader “, according to showrunner Tony Gilroy, ” and see how difficult it is to form an alliance “.

According to Tony Gilroy, it will be divided into 4 arcs of 3 episodes each, each arc representing an entire year. “ The last scenes of episode 24 [le dernier de la saison 2, ndlr] will overlap with the very first scenes of Rogue One ”, in order to make a perfect transition.

Which actors will be present?

We will of course find Diego Luna in the role of Cassian Andor, but he is not the only one returning in season 2. Still according to Collider, Genevieve O’Reilly, who plays Mon Mothma, and Forest Whitaker, who plays Saw Gerrera, will also be there. The media also talks about the probable return of Stellan Skarsgård in the guise of the rebel Luthen Rael.

For the rest of the cast, whether the antagonists Dedra Meero and Siryl Karn, or the rebels Cinta and Vel, we do not yet know what their fate will be – even if we see at the end of season 1 that they are all doing well. We also suspect that new characters will appear, even if no actor’s name has been leaked so far.

Will there be a season 3? Andor ?

Alas no. It was announced from the start thatAndor will only have two seasons. It’s ultimately logical: the series is the prequel to Rogue One, that is to say that it takes place before the events of the film. We therefore already know what will happen to Cassian Andor, and we therefore logically cannot have an extended series with a large number of seasons.

Since season 1 ofAndor begins in BBY 5 (5 years before the Battle of Yavin) and the film Rogue One ends right before this battle, there can only be 5 years between the two. No time for much more than two seasons, then.

What should you see first? Andor ?

The Star Wars cinematic universe is immense. With three film trilogies, sideshows and a growing number of series, it’s easy to lose the son. In all this, where is Andor ?

Chronologically, the series takes place between two films: before the film Rogue Oneand between episode III, Revenge of the Sith and episode IV, A New Hope. However, it is not absolutely necessary to have seen these two films to understand the plot ofAndor, which is ultimately not very connected with the rest of the universe and the stories told in the other films. You will miss a few references, but they are not essential to understanding the series.

However, we advise you to see both. First of all because it is aboutexcellent films (we insist), and then because the Star Wars universe is particularly rich. Watching both installments will certainly help you better understand what is unfolding before your eyes. Knowing that Cassian Andor appears for the first time in the saga Star Wars In Rogue Onethis also allows you to get a better idea of your character.

What are the other series Star Wars ?

There are several animated series and several live-action series in the Star Wars universe. Even if none are directly linked to Andor, if you are missing content Star Warsyou have plenty to do.

Among the animated series, the two most famous and oldest are The Clone Warswhich takes place between Star Wars II and III, and Rebels, which takes place between Episode III and Episode IV. More recently, we have also seen The Bad Batch arriving on Disney+, a new series that follows a former clone unit, having served the Republic side during the Clone Wars. More original, Star Wars: Visions offers a series of independent stories, each made by a different Japanese animation studio and with its own style.

The live action series are more recent. The first one, The Mandalorianhas enjoyed great success, and 2 seasons are currently available on Disney+ – a 3rd is currently in preparation. The Book of Boba Fettreleased in 2022, directly follows events that occurred during The Mandalorian. Finally, the miniseries Obi Wan Kenobidedicated to the Jedi of the same name, takes place between the events of Episode III and Episode IV.
