Windows 11 is preparing to welcome Android 13 via Windows Subsystem for Android.

One of the great new features introduced by Windows 11 is the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) feature which allows you to benefit from an Android experience on your computer.

A WSA update to Android 13

Suffering from interface and performance problems in its early days, WSA has improved with updates and is now much faster and more efficient. But Microsoft does not intend to stop there and has published a roadmap for the future of WSA on GitHub.

We learn that the American firm is working on the transition from Windows Subsystem for Android to the latest major version of Android, namely Android 13, officially available since mid-August 2022 on smartphones and tablets.

To date, very few terminal models still support Android 13. Google Pixels have of course been entitled to their update, but third-party manufacturers are still fine-tuning their overlay to deploy Android 13 on their devices. . And that can take time: months, sometimes even years, if you don’t have a recent top-of-the-range mobile in your possession. So depending on how fast Microsoft is, Android 13 may well land on Windows 11, via WSA, before you can enjoy it on your smartphone.

What’s new for WSA with Android 13?

According to the roadmap communicated by Microsoft, Android 13 will bring several new features to WSA, including file transfer between WSA and Windows, a picture-in-picture mode to display Android applications overlaying the native interface of Windows as well as access to the local network by default.

Windows Subsystem for Android has been available on Windows 11 for a few weeks in France. The latest update includes better in-game performance, improvements for game controllers, better mouse and keyboard support, and better integration with the operating system.

WSA could upgrade to Android 13 in stable version as early as the first quarter of 2023.
