Android 14 will let you change your lock screen shortcuts. But, there is a but…

While Google intends to make its applications safer and more stable, let’s dwell on one of the changes expected in the next version of its operating system.

Android 14 will be full of new features: what’s new on the program?

Last month, we gave you an overview of the new features to come in Android 14. Between the arrival of new privacy options, the possibility of taking advantage of a transparent navigation bar or even a sharing option near that will be simplified, the next version of the operating system from Google promises some notable improvements. On the other hand, while iOS is starting to become more and more customizable, and iOS 17 should just continue on this path, we have just learned that the customization of the lock screen in Android 14 will remain limited on the side of the shortcuts.

Remember, we mentioned to you last February the arrival of shortcuts on the lock screen. First spotted in the beta version of Android 13, this feature then hinted at the possibility of modifying the shortcuts on your lock screen. Unfortunately, she won’t be as permissive as we might have imagined…

Android users limited to a selection of shortcuts?

On Twitter, Mishaal Rahman gave some details about the use of this feature in Android 14. So we learn, through the site Android Police, that it will be impossible to select the shortcuts of your choice on the lock screen. You will indeed be limited to a predefined list that includes the following options: QR code reader, flashlight, camera, notes, device controls, Mute mode, “Do not bother” as well as Wallet. In other words, understand that you will be restricted to these eight shortcuts.

As a reminder, all you have to do is hold down the shortcut of your choice for a long time to activate it. While waiting for the deployment of Android 14, which should logically take place in August, we also remind you that the operating system will mark the arrival of a new format for your photos: Ultra HDR. This feature already looks interesting since it will improve the rendering of your shots.
