For iOS there has been a tool for a long time that detects unwanted trackers from Apple’s “Where is?” Network in the immediate vicinity. Actually, this network is only supposed to help you find lost devices. However, they have also been used for stalking and other criminal activities.
Tracker Detect shows hidden GPS trackers
So far, Android users have not been able to protect themselves from being monitored by the Apple product. The new app Tracker Detect is set to change that. The app can be downloaded free of charge from the Google App Store. No registration with Apple is required, only the acceptance of the general terms and conditions.

The range of functions is limited to the essentials. You can actively search for trackers in your area with the app. If an AirTag or other device is found, it will be listed. As with iOS, you can trigger a signal 10 minutes after the location to make it easier for you to find it.
If you have actually found a tracker, the app offers you tips on how to neutralize the device. Unfortunately you have to activate the search function first. A background search would be a useful addition here. It remains to be seen whether Apple will expand the range of functions in this regard.
