DuckDuckGo for Android is getting a new tracker blocking feature in third-party apps.
DuckDuckGo announces the launch of its in-app tracking protection tool on Android.
Block Android app tracking
The feature, in open beta, is available for free on the DuckDuckGo app. The developers compare this option to Apple’s famous App Tracking Transparency (ATT), deployed on iPhones since iOS 14.5, but assure that it is an even more powerful tool.
By enabling App Tracking Protection in the app settings, all hidden trackers identified by the platform will be automatically blocked. DuckDuckGo already offers a navigation that is more respectful of privacy and confidentiality for its search engine, but the advantage of this new function is that it applies to all applications installed on its smartphone.
According to DuckDuckGo, the average user has 35 apps on their mobile, and these can generate between 1,000 and 2,000 tracking attempts every day, sharing your data with over 70 different tracking companies.
Seamless operation
” When App Tracking Protection is enabled, it detects when other apps on your phone are about to send data to one of the third-party tracking companies and blocks most of these requests. You can continue to use your apps as usual, and App Tracking Protection works in the background to block trackers whenever it finds them “says DuckDuckGo.
The app offers a real-time display of app tracking protection results. We learn how many attempts were blocked, from which applications, to which companies the data should be sent, and what type of information would have been shared if there had been no blocking.
You also have the possibility of activating the notifications to obtain regular automatic summaries of the blockages carried out by the tool. The latter uses a local VPN connection to work, so data is not sent to DuckDuckGo’s servers.
