What if an Android app closes itself, stops responding, or won’t open? We’ve all experienced this before: without warning, the Android app we’re using suddenly closes for no reason. To solve the problem and to prevent it from happening again, we have a few tips for you.
Whether you’re an Android beginner or a more advanced user, we’ve all come across an android app which refuses to work properly. There are times when Google has pushed a faulty update to apps or an Android system component.
Unfortunately, not all bugs have a miracle solution that works every time. On the other hand, we can offer you some tips for reacting correctly in the event of a problem. Follow the leader !
Restart your Android smartphone
First try to restart your smartphone. If it’s been a while since you restarted your Android device, this action might work well. Restarting will close open apps and processes in your smartphone. All these applications running in the background on your Android smartphone can have a real negative effect in the long run. If the problem is minor, restarting should be enough.
Force Stop Android App
Before getting to its more extreme solutions, start by force stopping this faulty Android app. Even if you have already closed it, an application can continue to run in the background due to a bug. To force stop:
- Meet in the Settings of your Android smartphone
- Go into Apps
- Click on Apps
- Choose the problem Android app
- Press on Force stop
Clear Android app cache
In the event of a problem, the second essential step is to empty the cache of the application in question. To empty the cache of an Android application, it’s very simple:
- meet in the Settings,
- then in Apps
- select Apps
- choose the problem Android app
- Meet in Storage
- Click on Empty the cache
At the next opening, your application will be a little slower at launch but this maneuver could have solved the problem if it is not too serious. Avoid clicking on “Erase data”. This action will delete the data recorded at the time of identification.
Synchronize your smartphone with Google servers
It may be necessary in some cases to synchronize your smartphone again with the Google servers. Note, however, that the handling may vary depending on the manufacturer. Here is a procedure to follow:
- Open the app Settings from your phone
- Go to the tab System & Updates then Date hour
- Now disable the option Automatic definition
- Change the date and time to be incorrect
- Activate the option Automatic definition
Check if an update is available for the Android app
The problem may have already been spotted by the app developers. With any luck, an update containing a fix is already available. To check if an app update is available, all you need to do is:
- go to the app from the Google Play Store
- click on your account icon at the top left
- choose Manage apps and device
- choose the app to update or click Update all
Uninstall then reinstall the Android app
If all of these tips still haven’t worked, you’ll need to uninstall the app that’s causing you trouble. For that, you just need to:
- Go to Google Play Store app
- click on your account icon at the top left
- choose Manage apps and device
- Select tab To manage
- Find the app in question and click Uninstall
- Wait a few moments before pressing Install
Of course, this solution is only possible in the case of an application that you have installed yourself. If it was native on your Android smartphone, you still have the option of rooting it to remove the application or remove the latest updates. One of these two solutions should be able to fix the problem as well.
Factory reset your Android smartphone
If the above methods did not work, you will have to use the strong method. You will have to restore your smartphone to its factory settings. Before doing this, however, there are a few essential steps to follow. First of all, we advise you to back up the personal data of your Android smartphone. To restore your smartphone to factory settings:
- Open the app Settings
- Click on System & Updates then on Reset
- Press on Reset phone then Restore factory values
- Once this is done, select the option to restart the device.
- Configure the device and restore the data you backed up.
