The Russian opposition politician Alexej Navalny (44) thanked Angela Merkel (66) for a sick visit. And thus confirmed on Twitterthat the Chancellor was with him at the Berlin Charité. "There was a meeting," he wrote in the short message service, but it should not be called "secret", he added via a corresponding media report. Navalny called it "more of a private meeting and conversation with the family": "I am very grateful to Chancellor Merkel that she visited me in the hospital."
Navalny is no longer in the clinic. He collapsed on a domestic flight in Russia on August 20 and was brought to Germany for treatment shortly afterwards. According to the federal government, tests had shown that Navalny was poisoned with a neurotoxin from the Novitschok group. According to the doctors, long-term consequences cannot be ruled out.
