Angelina Jolie: Her daughters Shiloh and Zahara had to be operated on

The Jolie-Pitt extended family has apparently been going through a difficult time in the past few months. This was revealed by actress Angelina Jolie (44, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith") in a personal essay for the US magazine "Time" on the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8th. In the text, Jolie reveals that her daughters Shiloh (13) and Zahara (15) face "medical challenges" and both had to go under the knife.

"I have spent the past two months accompanying my eldest daughter to surgery, and two days ago I watched her younger sister go under the knife because of a hip operation," Jolie writes. However, Jolie did not explain the reasons for the two interventions.

Her daughters, whose privacy she respects, not only allowed her to write about it, but even encouraged her to continue, the 44-year-old continued. They knew that they could be proud to have faced these challenges.

Her daughters were there for each other

She had watched both of them being there for each other. All of their "girls" would have left everything to take care of the others. Her sons Maddox (18) Pax (16) and Knox (11) were very "sweet" to their sisters and were a support in every way.

But for the occasion, she focuses on her daughters in her text. For World Women's Day, she wishes that "we appreciate girls". "We have to take care of them. We have to be aware that the healthier they are, the stronger they become and the more they will give back to their families and their communities."

Jolie had her breasts removed as a precaution

Jolie also had to deal with serious medical challenges. The Hollywood star had fear of getting cancer and had both breasts removed as a precaution in 2013. At the time, she had made her decision public in an essay for the New York Times. It has a gene that significantly increases the risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer, Jolie said. Her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died of breast cancer in 2007 at the age of 56. With her decision she wanted to save her children from this fate. Two years later, Jolie had the ovaries and fallopian tubes removed.
