  • Angry Birds will be deleted from Google Play.
  • You will no longer be able to download it after February 23rd.
  • The title apparently has a negative impact on the success of other Angry Birds parts.

The mobile game “Angry Birds” was first released in 2009 and has since been downloaded over 100 million times from Google Play. Now developer Rovio surprises with an announcement. From February 23rd, the game will be deleted from Google Play and can no longer be downloaded.

Rovio cites economic reasons as the reason for this decision. The success of the classic has an impact on the manufacturer’s entire portfolio and these are obviously not positive. After reviewing the business model, it was therefore decided to remove the game from Google Play.

Fans note in the comments below the tweet that the newer Angry Birds titles rely more heavily on in-app purchases and microtransactions, while the original game has significantly fewer such elements.

Rovio assures that those who download the game now can continue to play it after February 23. New installations are then no longer possible. Angry Birds will remain listed in the App Store, but will be renamed. It will be called “Red’s First Flight” in the future.
