Animal rights activists angry – pregnant cat exposed to sub-zero temperatures!

A heavily pregnant cat in winter? This is something rare. The fact that she was abandoned in her condition in the forest makes the animal rights activists at Pfotenhilfe Lochen angry. But now “Emily” is in good hands.

A cat found in a wooded area in Ostermiething was recently brought to the Pfotenhilfe animal shelter in Lochen. The animal keeper found the belly noticeably thick, which is why she arranged for an ultrasound examination. Lo and behold: the cat is highly pregnant. The paw help baptized her with the name “Emily”. “We’ve never had a case like this,” says Pfotenhilfe boss Johanna Stadler. “Normally we get a lot of pregnant cats and abandoned kittens from spring to autumn, but not in winter. It’s really unbelievable that the mother-to-be was abandoned in the woods just before Christmas in this cold weather.” There are good chances of having babies on New Year’s Eve. Emily can now give birth to her children in warmth and safety at the animal shelter and will also be given all-round care and medical supervision over the upcoming holidays. The animal keepers are already excited because, according to the veterinarian, the chances are good that they could be New Year’s babies. “But with all the anticipation, you have to say that some people are becoming more and more raw and cold-hearted. This comes to a head every year, especially before Christmas,” says Stadler.
