Annual Report 2021 – One voice for the disadvantaged

A “good” year for an aid organization is difficult to define – because hardship is always a cause for concern. However, Volkshilfe Burgenland was able to report successes last year – due to the particularly generous willingness to help of the Burgenlanders and some new programs that are supposed to help people in need.

The annual report now presented by Volkshilfe and Landtag President Verena Dunst was above all marked by gratitude and pride for what has been achieved. At the same time, she emphasized the need for further activities, because around 6000 children in Burgenland are still at risk of poverty, for which basic financial security is essential. In order to help especially the weakest in society, the position for social worker Elvira Prangl was created last year with the ambitious goal of “eradicating child poverty”. The new employee should make it easier for affected families to find out about offers of help and to get in contact with authorities and organizations. On this occasion, Prangl presented two new projects for 2022: “Learn.Motain.Make” and “Children.Gesundheit.Sicherung”. Dunst was particularly impressed by the solidarity within the communities in the form of neighborhood help and generous donation campaigns Christmas.Volunteering out of conviction “Donating means trusting”, emphasized Dunst. This means that supporters should and can rely on their aid going straight to what it is intended for, said the state parliament president, who has been volunteering for people’s aid for 19 years. In addition to advice and unbureaucratic help, it is important to keep in touch with those affected afterwards.
