Annual siren test – 99 percent of sirens work properly – News

  • According to the Federal Office for Civil Protection (Babs), 99 percent of the sirens worked perfectly in the annual test.
  • The cantons and municipalities are now required to repair or replace defective systems immediately, the Babs said.
  • Since the sirens are tested every year and any defects found are subsequently remedied, functional reliability can be maintained at a very high level.

The digital Alertswiss channels were also tested for the fourth time on the occasion of the siren test. At the same time as the sirens were triggered, an information message was triggered on the Alertswiss website and on the Alertswiss mobile app, writes the Babs.

Alarm also via app

With the Alertswiss services, the population in Switzerland can better prepare for disasters and emergencies. Instructions on how to behave could be sent quickly and directly to the affected population by the responsible authorities.

In Switzerland there are around 7,200 sirens for the general alarm to protect the population. Around 5,000 of these sirens are stationary and around 2,200 are mobile. All stationary sirens are connected to the uniform Polyalert control system. At the same time, Polyalert also serves as the core system for the dissemination of alerts and supplementary information via the Alertswiss channels.
