An “Appart’City” in Antibes has been requisitioned by the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture since January 31 to accommodate unaccompanied minors (MNA). The sub-prefect, Benoît Huber, has just signed an order to this effect.

This requisition follows the large and unusual influx of young migrants in vulnerable situations at the Franco-Italian border in the city of Menton. Faced with this record number of more than 700 unaccompanied minors, the structures of the department could no longer accommodate more, for lack of space. The president of the departmental council, Charles-Ange Ginésy, had launched a week ago a call for help from the State in the face of this saturation at the microphone of France bleu Côte d’Azur.

I regret the government’s silence. I call once again for the Minister of the Interior and the Keeper of the Seals to take up this subject urgently.

Following the announcement of the prefecture, the elected official insists: “I regret the government’s silence despite the urgency of my repeated appeals. I call once again for the Minister of the Interior and the Keeper of the Seals to urgently take up this subject. Charles-Ange Ginésy demands a “acceleration of the legal procedures necessary to distribute these migrants throughout the national territory” as well as a “large-scale requisition of hosting sites.”

120 rooms, 25 minors already accommodated

The requisition of this Antibes establishment with 120 rooms is scheduled for a month. 25 minors have already been accommodated. The departmental council will have to pay the related costs, the competence of the care of unaccompanied minors returning to it.

In its decree, the prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes emphasizes “the urgency of ensuring the care of these people in decent and dignified conditions” but also “of the need to prevent disturbances to public order of any kind”.

“This requisition is a good thing but it does not make a policyjudge for his part David Nakache, president of the association All citizens, which helps unaccompanied minors in the Alpes-Maritimes. It is a policy from the end of the candle!” According to him, this requisition will not be sufficient and it will have to be extended. “What is needed is the construction of new structureshe pleads. There are emergency credits for this. In the meantime, it is the kids who toast.
