App of the week: I found the easiest way to organize myself


We spent a few weeks with Todoist. The application brings together almost all the advantages expected of an organization application: easy to use, fast, findable on all platforms. A real good choice.

In the endless stream of tasks that come to your desk over the course of a week, it can happen that you lose track a little. We can of course try to keep everything in mind, but the exercise is both difficult and dangerous. The use of post-its is an honorable choice, but in the age of teleworking, unless you carry around with a pile of these small adhesive squares from home to work, it is difficult to combine this solution with our post-work modes. -covid.

So using a ToDo list application can be a more sustainable solution. After trying a number of them, I ended up falling for Todoist. Behind the clever pun hides one of the applications best suited to my needs: simple, but powerful, uncluttered, compatible with many OSes… in short, a great proposition. Note that there is a paid version of the application, but I never felt the need.

An app present (almost) everywhere

The first advantage of Todoist compared to Google Tasks or other TickTick is the work of its developers to offer an application on almost all platforms. Android, Windows, iOS, iPadOS. Only macOS is missing.

The immediate advantage I get from it compared to a Google Tasks or Keep used as a Todolist is the possibility of registering any task on any device and accessing it from anywhere , with the additional comfort of not needing to launch a browser to access it on a Windows PC.

Responsive and neat widget

A good ToDo list app should allow you to download the slightest thought in a minimum of time so that you don’t already forget it, but also so as not to discourage you from writing down all the good ideas that come to mind. On this, I also found that Todoist was doing better than its competitors thanks to a formidable tool: its widget.

The latter, in addition to offering a large number of customization options, is undoubtedly the most responsive I have ever tested. You can even add a task without opening the application and thus avoid the small loading time that could come with it. A true delight.

A very powerful own language

Always with a view to not wasting time, Todoist had a great idea. Rather than going back and forth in the various sub-categories to properly classify your task (deadline, category, priority, etc.), you can all enter a single sentence. This saves time, but time, you have no idea.

Small example to understand better: let’s say that I want to mark myself an article subject to write for tomorrow with an average priority. With a typical productivity application, I will have to type the name of the task “write an article on this subject”, then go click or tap on the category to add it to “work”, then click on the priority, set it to “2” let’s say, then click on the calendar and add tomorrow’s date. On Todoist, I just have to type directly: “Write an article on this subject tomorrow P2 @Frandroid” and everything is settled automatically.

An organization that is good for the brain

There’s nothing worse at the end of a day than seeing your ToDo list still full of upcoming tasks for the following days. On Todoist, a “Today” view is offered to you as standard. This allows you to take stock at the start of the day of the upcoming tasks that had been placed on this date, but also at the end of the day. Even if I have unfinished tasks left, I just have to move them to another day and this allows me to efficiently follow day by day where I am.

And since there is nothing better to motivate yourself than small positive feedback on your work, once the list has been completely emptied, a small image representing a young woman on a bicycle will encourage you to move on. The best way to leave work with peace of mind.
