If you were hoping that the new M3 iMacs would also adopt USB-C, you will obviously have to wait a little longer.
Just yesterday, Apple gave us a new keynote entirely devoted to its new M3 chips and the new MacBook Pro. For information, the event was filmed entirely with an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
But the Apple brand didn’t stop there, since it also took the opportunity to present us with a brand new iMac equipped with an M3 processor. However, the device’s keyboard and mouse will still retain their Lightning port.
From Lightning port to USB-C: when Apple goes sparingly
The launch of the iPhone 15/Plus and iPhone 15 Pro/Max last September opened the door to the wildest hopes. After years of imposing the use of an aging Lightning port on its smartphones, the firm led by Tim Cook has finally taken the plunge into USB-C.
If various rumors suggested that the new iMac would also be entitled to such a privilege, it seems that Apple will take a few more years before completing its transition to USB-C.
As reported to us by our colleagues from MacRumorsand contrary to the various rumors that we could hear here and there, the 2023 iMac will not have USB-C peripherals.
The iMac M3 will skip USB-C
On the night of Monday October 30 to Tuesday October 31, during its keynote, Apple confirmed that the new iMac peripherals will be equipped with a Ligntning port. This concerns the Magic Mouse, the Magic Keyboard and the Magic Trackpad, which correspond respectively to the new ranges of mouse, keyboard and touchpad.
If this decision may seem surprising to us, it is for the simple reason that the American company has already undertaken the transition to USB-C in recent months. In addition to the new iPhones, the latest iPad models, the second generation AirPods Pro, and the Siri Remote have all abandoned their Lightning port. More recently, the brand even unveiled a new Apple Pencil model with USB-C port.
As a reminder, the iMac equipped with the entry-level M3 chip will be marketed from November 7 from 1,599 euros. Prices can go up to 2,059 euros depending on the number of GPU cores (8 or 10 cores) and the storage space you want to have. For those who want to brighten up their desk, know that Apple will offer no less than seven colors.
