Apple is backtracking, the end call button will stay in the middle

On the occasion of WWDC 2023, Apple lifted the veil on iOS 17, the next version of its operating system. Several new features are on the program, starting with Standby, an alternative to the lock screen enabled only when your iPhone is charging on a MagSafe accessory. The other great novelty resides in Journal, an app that will allow you to create your personal diary by integrating daily messages, photos, the results of your sports training, or your music and podcasts of the moment.

The stable version of iOS 17 is expected for the start of the 2023 school year, and for now, users can preview the new features of the OS thanks to the different betas deployed by the manufacturer.

However, with beta 5 of iOS 17, beta testers have discovered a seemingly innocuous modification… but which in reality upsets the habits of iPhone owners. Indeed, the Apple brand has decided to change the location of the end of call button. Usually placed in the center of the screen, the command has migrated to the lower part of the screen, at the bottom right.

Apple backtracks on location of end call button

Unsurprisingly, this discovery made the rounds of the web and triggered the anger of iPhone users who immediately demanded the abandonment of this change. As our colleagues at MacRumors have noted, Apple decided to listen to its audience.

Indeed, the Cupertino company has backtracked on beta 6 of iOS 17, which has just arrived. Eventually, the end call button has returned to the center of the screen (always on the lower part on the other hand).

According to the manufacturer, it is mainly do not upset users’ muscle memory, who have been in the habit for years of sliding their finger mechanically in the middle of the screen to hang up. You will just have to go a little lower now to end a call. Why not leave the call button in the middle of the slab? It is very simple, Apple introduces with iOS 17 the famous contact posters, which allows users to assign a photo to each contact. During a call, the caller’s photo will be displayed in full screen. Logically, Apple could not leave the end of call button in the middle of the slab, at the risk of ruining the whole concept.
