As expected, Apple has rolled out the third public beta of its upcoming systems, which still bring some new features.
Apple’s beta program is now well established after several years of existence. Only 24 hours after the release of the latest versions reserved for developers, these are also available to registered users.
Apple offers a few last-minute new features, some of which are highly anticipated
Despite over two months of beta, Apple continues to add a few features to iOS 16 and improve many interface elements across its mobile operating system.
The main novelty of this version is the return of the remaining battery indicator, which had disappeared from iOS since the iPhone X in 2017 and the appearance of the notch on these models with Face ID. This was a strong and pressing request from many users who despaired of no longer having easy access to this information. The omission is now repaired, even if opinions differ as to Apple’s aesthetic choices on this subject.
Also new, the sound produced by the iPhone when switched to Lost Mode changes. The current strident melody has been replaced by a slightly more harmonious sequence, but which will quickly become annoying if you use it every day to find your phone lost between the sofa cushions.
Finally, among the visible novelties, users who take a lot of screenshots will discover a new button: “Copy and delete”. Thanks to it, it will be possible to keep a copy to paste in a message or an e-mail immediately, without the capture gathering dust in the photo library.
Few notable changes in macOS Ventura
Regarding macOS Ventura, the new features are less visible. Apple seems more busy fixing the many bugs still present and refining the improvements made to the system. We think in particular of Stage Manager, a new interface for multitasking which will also find a place in iPadOS 16 and of which we offered you a first preview several weeks ago.
macOS Ventura will also completely revamp the “System Preferences” panel, now called “Settings” as on the iPhone. Its layout will be similar to that which has been available for ages on Apple-stricken smartphones and tablets. Changing the historical habits of Mac users is risky, and Apple seems to want to make the transition as smooth as possible by regularly reviewing the interface of this menu during the beta program.
If you have not yet taken the plunge, it is of course possible to install the public beta version of iOS 16 and macOS Ventura on your machine while waiting for the release of the final versions at the start of the school year.
