Releasing a new version of an OS used by millions of people around the world is never easy. Apple understood this recently with iOS 17, macOS 14 and watchOS 11.

Change of strategy at Apple. While Apple has just released a host of new software products on iPhone, iPad and Mac, it’s not time to celebrate. As journalist Mark Gurman at Bloomberg tells us, the company has paused the development of the next versions of macOS, iOS and watchOS to switch to bug correction mode and other instabilities on current versions of the systems.

Cascading bugs on iPhones

It was Craig Federighi himself, the company’s software manager, who made this unusual decision at Apple. The developers in charge of iOS 18 and macOS 15 will therefore pause their daily work for a week to go bug hunting. Suffice it to say that this will bring many pairs of eyes back to the current problems faced by advanced operating systems.

It must be said that, when it comes to iOS 17 alone, Apple has not really had peace of mind. Some phones seem to restart on their own overnight, others see their NFC chips melt when placed on certain wireless chargers, while “tagging” problems ruin the lives of iPhone 15 owners. Some of its problems were corrected with the release of iOS 17.1, but obviously the number of bugs is still too high for Apple’s taste.

Apple obviously always releases “intermediate” versions between major updates of its systems, but this time it is no longer a question of putting a small team in charge of bug correction on a daily basis. Apple is bringing out the heavy artillery, even if it means falling a little behind the release of watchOS, macOS 15 and iOS 18 next year.

A potential delay on iOS 18

According to information obtained by Bloomberg, however, initial development for these systems is finished. This means that the essential building blocks for operation are in place and only the “additional” functionalities of the OS remain to be developed. We can therefore expect a timely launch next year with, perhaps, just a few tools arriving in a second update wave.

If the situation is unusual for Apple, it is much preferable to fall a little behind on the development of systems planned in a year rather than letting a plethora of bugs ruin the lives of owners of Apple devices. Especially when the company’s unofficial slogan is “It just works“.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max

  • Lighter, more stylish
  • Hyper bright screen
  • Good autonomy

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is undoubtedly the most interesting model of the 2023 vintage. Despite its gigantism, it is much lighter than its predecessor, and stands out as the very first to benefit from a periscopic telephoto lens providing zoom 5x. Never before seen on iPhone.

If this thing will hardly impress those who use high-end Android smartphones, in our opinion Apple is largely catching up thanks to excellent quality optics, which remain very capable in low light.

Backed by the A17 Pro chip which shows the muscles in play as well as in more basic processing tasks, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is also the one which offers the best autonomy of the Pro models. Yes, despite everything, its striking power still keeps it a notch below the iPhone 15 Plus in terms of endurance.

Let’s add to the balance sheet the welcome contributions of the new action button, which offers a whole new way to quickly access essential functions of the iPhone.

In a nutshell: the best iPhone ever designed by Apple.
