  • Android 14 should enable the sending of SMS via a satellite connection in the future.
  • Cell phones must have the appropriate hardware for this to work.

With the iPhone 14, Apple showed the way: the cell phone received a satellite emergency call, which means that people in need no longer have to rely on a mobile network. According to rumors, Android 14 should now also integrate access to a satellite connection into the operating system.

As Gizmochina reports, a corresponding note was posted on the TeamPixel FC Twitter channel. Accordingly, Android 14 integrates a function for sending SMS via a satellite connection. However, not all devices would support the feature, since the appropriate hardware had to be installed.

The user Morisuke also writes that the updates should first appear for Samsung and Google Pixel phones. Since the Galaxy S23 does not have the corresponding technology, integration would be conceivable at the earliest with the Galaxy S24.
