In filming for several years now, Tetris, the biopic on the history of the famous video game, will soon arrive on our screens. Apple has just unveiled it with a simple tweet: the film directed by Jon S. Baird (Stan and Ollie) will first be unveiled at the SXSW festival next March. It will then arrive “soon” on Apple TV+.
Particularly worn by Taron Egerton (already trained in biopics with Rocketman) as Henk Rogers, Tetris is interested in the story of this American seller and his discovery of the most famous video game in the world in 1988. When he wants to discover Tetris to the world, he will then enter the world behind the “Iron Curtain”, loaded with corruption and lies.
Toby Jones and Nikita Efremov are also in the cast of this film, where it should also be a question of the legal battles around the intellectual property rights of the game created by the Russian software engineer Alexey Pajitnov in 1984. In short, a serious film which could well talk to those who particularly liked the series Halt and Catch Fire.
A timeless game
Declined many times for more than 30 years now (notably with Tetris Effect, Puyo Puyo Tetris or Tetr.io these last years), Tetris is, maybe with pac man, the most famous video game in the world.
